Tomorrow (3rd May) will be 5 years since Madeleine McCann went missing fromPraia da Luz while on holiday from Britain in Portugal.
She was 3 at the time and on 12th May she will turn 9.
No evidence of death has been found and it is thought it could have been an organised abduction.
Portuguese police refuse to re-open her case, however, Scotland Yard has an ongoing search for her all over Europe. Portuguese police did not begin the search for Maddie until the next day, by this time, so many people had been in and out of the hotel apartment that the majority of evidence was completely destroyed, Spanish officials had also not been informed so the culprit could have crossed the Portuguese/Spanish border that night, a gateway into the rest of the Mediterranean.
There have been no confirmed sightings of Maddie, however there is no evidence she is dead and British police believe there is a possibility she could be alive.
This is a high profile media case in Britain, Im not sure about other countries, but her parents want this image of her circulated as much as possible. On the left is Maddie when she was abducted, on the right is a computer generated image of what police believe she may look like now, nearly her ninth birthday.
I remember when Maddie went missing and she deserves to be at home with her family where she belongs, so I am just putting this image up, mostly so those in other countries, particularly Europe (although she could be anywhere), can recognise Maddie and what she may look like now. Her hair may have been dyed by the abductors, however, if you look closely at her pupil, it merges into her iris like a drip, this is very rare.
If anyone believes they have seen her they need to speak to police, it will help them in their investigation, no matter how small.
